Georgia Southern president stepping down

Georgia Southern University President Jaimie Hebert is stepping down at the end of next month to pursue other opportunities, the University System of Georgia announced Wednesday.

Hebert, who took over the post just two years ago, will be succeeded on an interim basis by university system veteran Shelley Nickel, currently serving as executive vice chancellor for strategy and fiscal affairs. Nickel previously served a stint as interim president at Gordon State College in Barnesville, Ga.
